Smart Interaction Lab has been up to some digital tricks and treats. On Friday, we collaborated with the newly launched Fab Lab at the Marymount School of New York (http://marymountnyc.org/) to design a groovy but spooky pumpkin face and try our hand at laser cutting the squash.
The result? More cute than spooky, but definitely promising. All our pumpkins were so large they were bumping up on the laser when we put them in sideways, so we made our first few tests with the pumpkin turned on its face.
The laser didn’t quite cut through the pumpkin the way we wanted, though it did singe through the outer shell. Next year we’ll try again, bumping up the laser intensity and using a slightly smaller squash!
